Description: Knowles Taylor Knowles KTK Lotus Ware Shell Dish Tray 1890s. The Lotus Ware line began production in 1892 and was publicly introduced at the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago. Due to the difficulty of production and the the company only releasing "perfect" pieces, it is estimated that up to 90% of the items produced were destroyed, leading to its discontinuation in 1896. The accounts I have read estimate that only 5000 or so pieces of Lotus Ware survive today. Tray measures approximately 4 1/2" in diameter and is in good condition for age with no chips or cracks except for a "flea bite" along the base that I didn't visually notice until running my finger over the edges and feeling slight roughness.
