Description: Killing Mr. Watson by Peter Matthiessen HCDJ 1st Edition/1st Printing Very Good. Very slight soiling of page edges and very slight fading to edges of boards. Otherwise, very clean, tight, copy with sharp unbumped corners and boards, and tight spine. Jacket is beautiful and is protected by a Brodar mylar sleeve. Number line starts with "2," and is stated "First Edition," which for books published by Random House circa 1976-2000 indicates a first edition and first printing. A number line beginning with "2" and no "First Edition" statement is a second printing. You can read more about this confusing, yet well-known numbering scheme on line, simply by searching for "Random House printing line." This is my second favorite Mathiessen novel, after "At Play in the Fields of the Lord" out of the 6 books of his that I've read. Mathiessen was a master in any form in which he chose to write. "In the Spirit of Crazy Horse" is one of the finest non-fiction books I've ever read and this book, "At Play..," and "Far Tortuga" are novels I reread every few years. If you've never read Mathiessen, and you are interested in literary fiction at all, then this would be a great place to start. A monumentally great read! About the book: Drawn from fragments of historical fact, Matthiessen's masterpiece brilliantly depicts the fortunes and misfortunes of Edgar J. Watson, a real-life entrepreneur and outlaw who appeared in the lawless Florida Everglades around the turn of the century.
