Description: Complete poems / Kenneth Fearing ; edited with notes and an introduction by Robert M. Ryley From a review: Fearing may no longer be a current name, but his work is still here, vital and energizing younger poets who have rediscovered him. Except for two books of poems in the 1940s (not counting various selections and collections), Fearing turned from poetry to the novel in the early 1940s. The poetry is bluntly quotidian, mundane to some. But the energy, the imagery, the unspooked directness of vision are still startling and as fresh as on first publication. The biographical sketch is informative, certainly, but the introduction to the poems is a narrowed "reading," dealing with the political to the exclusion of almost all else. It would serve better as an afterword, after a careful, slow savoring of all the values of the text.
