Description: Kaywoodie 1950s/60s Heirloom Nobleman Estate Briar Pipe, American Estates Kaywoodie 1950s/60s Heirloom Nobleman Estate Briar Pipe, American Estates Kaywoodie pipes are as American as apple pie. Starting in 1919 as a pipe brand for KB&B, a pipe shop dating all the way back to 1851, Kaywoodie has since then been a staple of American-made pipes. In the present, many Kaywoodies are collectors’ items, in addition to being fantastic smokers. Kaywoodies fittingly-named Heirloom line is as fascinating as it is rare. The pipes were, if my research is correct, offered for a relatively short period of time in the 1950s and 60s, and they werent cheap, either. Each was hand-carved, much like meerschaum pipes, or early briars, taking the form of archetypes, such as the devil, or the nobleman seen here. In other words, they were figural pipes. I havent had the chance to handle another before, so I dont know whether they were all large pipes, but this one certainly is. As it is a mid-century Kaywoodie, it includes the makes famed four-hole stinger. The condition is good. Some rim darkening.
