Braking performance is enhanced over a mechanical disc brakes with easy pad and cable adjustment. The pistons actuate in a parallel motion unlike the one sided movement of a mechanical disc brake and at approx. 142grams per calliper they offer a substantial weight saving. If you already have some Avid's etc in 160mm, don't worry the brakes will work just fine. Why can't I use 140mm rotors? 160mm rotors are the optimum size rotor to get the most efficient and effective braking from the Juin Tech R1 brakes. To maintain your 12months manufacturers warranty you need to run a 160mm rotor. Using a 140mm rotor will void your warranty and impair the braking performance of the Juin Tech R1 brake. A 140mm rotor will reduce the braking performance and also prevent maximum heat dissipation leading to reduced braking performance. If you are concerned about weight, don't be, if you take into consideration the weight saving you are gaining from the caliper, the few extra grams of a 160mm rotor over a 140mm is minimal.
