Description: Journal Parisien by L. Clark Keating and William G. Clubb (George Washington University)Illustrated by Maurice BrevannesCopyright 1955 by Appleton-Century-Crofts, Inc.Printed in the United States of AmericaPreface: It has been said quasi-humorously that the two years of language study required in American schools and colleges are about equivalent to a two or three weeks' stay in the foreign country. We have taken this remark as our starting point and have tried to imagine what a typical American student might achieve in the way of progress during three weeks in Paris. We have assumed that before arriving in France, our hero has acquired some elements of grammar and knows one hundred common words. With this as a basis he keeps a diary in French concerning his experiences, progressing daily in knowledge and writing skill. Our young diarist, whom we call Peterson, is wholly imaginary, but it is our hope that his adventures and misadventures are not without their parallels in the annals of American students' wanderings about Paris. This 68-year-old book has some discoloration, sticker residue, and marks but no holes or tears on the cover. There is no dust jacket. The binding has minimal wear. A quick flip through the pages showed no writing or damage and no missing pages. There are light, scattered marks on the outer edges of the pages that can be seen in photos 4, 5, 6. Examine photos closely.
