Limited edition ceramic plate of "Homage to a Square", after the artist's 1954 painting. This plate was created in 1999 by the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles. Note: Box may have some minor marks or other wear. Josef Albers was a German-born artist and the first living artist to be given solo exhibitions at MOMA and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. He is considered one of the most influential teachers of the visual arts in the twentieth century. Albers was a professor at the Bauhaus in Germany before emigrating to the United States in 1933. He taught at Black Mountain College in North Carolina and eventually headed Yale University's department of design. Accomplished as a designer, photographer, typographer, and print maker, Albers may be best remembered for his work as an abstract painter. His well-known "Homage to the Square" series of paintings were a 25 year endeavor Albers started in 1950.
