Dramatic piece of art**************************About the artist:Jonna White is an experimental contemporary artist who combines methods of painting, drawing, etching, and hand-made embossed paper to create richly layered and colorful images. In her etching processes she layers up to 80 plates in a single piece. In similar fashion, the artist developed a new process of sculptural rendering in which she covers paper relief castings with numerous sheets of prismatic thick paper. White’s subject matter includes mythical figures, scenes of fantasy, and images from nature that she finds tranquil and uplifting. Her works are inspired by the lush plant and animal life throughout magnificent Caribbean waters of her home. Previously, the artist’s works were on display inside the Jonna White Gallery located in the U.S. Virgin Island of Saint Thomas. White has exhibited in several galleries and institutions such as the Atlantic Center for the Arts in Florida and the Brevard Art Museum in Florida. She has won several awards such as Strawbridge Art League in Florida in 2005, the 55th Annual All Florida Juried Exhibition in 2006, the Annual Will’s Creek Survey in Maryland in 2008 and in 2009 among many others. White received her BFA from Birmingham-Southern College in 2002, and MFA from Florida State University in 2005.
