(Originally scheduled to open on September 13th, 2001, the official opening was delayed until September 20th, 2011 due to the terrorist attacks of September 11th, 2001. The production would close January 18th, 2004 after 965 performances.) ..... The League of American Theatre and Producers announced on September 12th that Broadway marquees would likely be re-illuminated on September 13th as part of New York's return to normalcy. A spokesman for Urinetown said that if Broadway productions resumed on September 13th, so would Urinetown, but the official opening would be announced later, as critics had not yet been able to see the show.
