Comedies of the Thirties, Art by WIK Here is a rare original Belgian stock movie poster intended for a film starring popular 1930's comedic actor Joe E. Brown. These type of stock posters were used by theater managers to promote a film featuring a popular star of the time. A generic image of the lead actor/actress would be prominently displayed on the poster with a blank area used to write or print in the film title. In this instance, Joe E. Brown was a very popular star of the Warner Bros. comedies of the 1930's. This particular poster is the only example I have ever seen over the past 25 years. It probably dates from the late Forties and features superb artwork by noted Belgian movie poster artist, Wik. DESCRIPTION: Joe E. Brown (1940's) - Warner Bros.COUNTRY OF ORIGIN/SIZE: Belgium 14" x 21.5"CONDITION: Very Good Untrimmed Folded Condition. Untrimmed top white border has a few small tears and glue remnants where a theater snipe was formerly attached. There are also a couple of pinholes / staple holes. There is another area of glue remnants in the lower blank scroll where another snipe was probably attached. Artwork is vivid and completely intact. Folded as originally issued, this poster has been stored flat for the past 19 years and will be shipped rolled in a sturdy tube or box.
