Description: JFK and best friend Lem Billings at Choate, early 1930sgay man's collection 4x61930sBrand new. Digitally edited and professionally re-printed on photo stock. From a family estate of a gentleman's collection of gay and male related photographs and ephemera. Most items are from the early to mid 20th century and includes loose photographs as well as some pictures that were cut by the owner from an antique photo album. Digital Reprint 4"x6" reprint of a snapshot showing future POTUS John F. Kennedy and his lifetime best friend and former roommate at Choate, Lem Billings. The two met at school in 1933 when both were wroking on the School yearbook. Even though Billings was a year older than Kennedy, it was worked out so that the two could graduate the same year. They were close and intimate friends from then throughout Kennedy's life.In later years, Billings turned down several appointments in the Kennedy Administration because he felt that working for the President would change their personal relationship. During the Camelot years, Mrs. Kennedy invited Billings down to her Virginia farm, Glen Ora, in order to "keep the President company" while she was out horseback riding. Billings was around the White House so much that the Presidential staff referred to him as "a handy old piece of furniture."Lem Billings died of a heart attack in 1981 at the age of 65.Check on this link to see the entire Gay Man's Estate Collection of photos.Note that because of the enlargement from my scanner, the image shown here is slightly more blurry that the print you will receive. A portion of the sales from my original prints are donated by eBay on my behalf to The Trevor Project. Their mission is to end suicide among LGBTQ young people. They offer crisis services, counseling, safe spaces and more. If you have the opportunity, search for online and watch the short film Trevor, on which this foundation is based. *For this type picture, I made digital repairs to the original images and had them professionally reprinted. Each of these photos is labeled at the top of the listing as "Digital Reprint" to indicate that these are not the original prints of these images. They are also priced accordingly.1 picture(s) included as part of our description. Please examine carefully before purchase.
