JERUSALEM - The Church of Saint Anne - Biblical Museum: Tabernacle in the Desert

Description: JERUSALEM - The Church of Saint Anne - Biblical Museum: Tabernacle in the Desert: The Church of Saint Anne (French: Église Sainte-Anne, is a French Roman Catholic church and French national domain located in the Muslim Quarter of the Old City of Jerusalem, near the start of the Via Dolorosa, next to the Lions' Gate. The current Church was built sometime between 1131 and 1138, during the reign of Queen Melisende. It was erected near the remains of the Byzantine basilica, over the site of a grotto believed by the Crusaders to be the childhood home of the Virgin Mary, mother of Jesus. It is dedicated to Anne and Joachim, the parents of Saint Mary, who according to tradition lived here. What was the tabernacle in the desert? Tabernacle, Hebrew Mishkan, (“dwelling”), in Jewish history, the portable sanctuary constructed by Moses as a place of worship for the Hebrew tribes during the period of wandering that preceded their arrival in the Promised Land. God wants to dwell with his people on the land, so he instructs Moses to build a tabernacle that mimics his dwelling place, the heavenly temple. Every element of the tabernacle structure is meant to draw ancient Israelites and readers back to the Eden narrative. This Divided Back Era (1907-15) postcard is in good condition. Peres Blanc, Saint Anne, Jerusalem.
