Laboureur, a Parisian artist associated with Toulouse-Lautrec and other French graphic modernists, came to Pittsburgh in late 1904, intrigued by its industrial might. He was feted by Pittsburgh's social and economic elite, and produced two series of etchings, "Ten Etchings from Pittsburgh" (1905) and "In the Pittsburgh Mills" (1906). According to art historian Rina Younger, the industrial scenes were the first to present such depictions of labor as high art, rather than simply illustration. All etchings of Pittsburgh by this artist, who went on to an illustrious career back in France as a modernist illustrator and graphic artist, are very rare on the market. Very Good.
