Description: Charles SpindlerFine woodwork inlay work by famous French inlayer artistIncredible detail and great old French town landscape of where the artist lived. Many tyopes of wood used and inlayed with incredible detail and workmanship.Charles Spindler (11 March 1865 in Bœrsch – 3 March 1938 in Bœrsch) was an Alsatian painter, marquetry inlayer,My introduction to the craft of marquetry came from The Art and Practice of Marquetry written by W.A. Lincoln. There were a handful of black and white photos and one that caught my eye was a village scene by Paul Spindler. A lot of marquetry has a paint-by- number look to it, but this picture went way beyond that. I kept my eye out for more work by Spindler. As a famous wood inlayer, he produced piece that sold for $2500-$3500 for a slightly larger piece than this, but we are about half that price and hoping to find a nice home for it. Eventually I found out that Paul Spindler was just a part of a family tradition. His father Charles was a celebrated marquetry artist working in Alsace at the turn of the 20th century. Paul joined his father around 1930. This piece comes fully framed and signed and is 101/2” by 15”Small handling fee is for shipping insurance only and local pickup is welcome in NJ
