Description: JAZZ from 1957: WARDELL GRAY - WAY OUT WARDELL - American Jazz Saxophonist EX+ JAZZ from 1957: WARDELL GRAY - WAY OUT WARDELL - American Jazz Saxophonist EX+ Description On the front cover of Way Out Wardell, it mentions "The Late Great Wardell Gray" - and yet from the cover photo Wardell looks to be a young man. Apparently Wardell passed away two years before the release of Way Out Wardell. Wardell Gray had widely recognized musical talent (Tenor Saxophone) just as its prominent roll in Bop was coming to fruition. What happened? Well, it happened during the Grand Opening of the Moulin Rouge Hotel in Las Vegas. Wikipedia has a bunch of information about Wardell, and the many "theories" surrounding his death. You will likely find this interesting. If you go to the Wikipedia site, just copy and paste Wardell Gray Into the Wikipedia search bar. Wardell Gray Way Out Wardell Label : Crown Records - CLP 5004 (on the Cover) & 5004 (on both Labels) / Original 1st Edition Release - Please See Below for the Deadwax Matrixes Format : 12" 33⅓ RPM Analog Mono Vinyl Record and Album Cover Country : United States Released : 1957 Genre : Jazz THE VINYL : EXCELLENT + EX+ : Lightly played with minimal evidence of spindlewear, both sides of the LP retain all of their original gloss. Bright, undamaged, Silver and Black Crown Records Labels (please see photos). Evident are some light marks, including sleevewear from the original paper inner sleeve, and a few shallow hairlines. Present also is some "vinyl crazing" that is cosmetic and does not affect the playback. There are no deep marks, and the tracks play cleanly with no skipping or sticking. The record has been carefully handled and infrequently played. A Note About The Recording Technology: In the early 1950’s, the invention of Vinyl Records (33 1/3 RPM) was a new Mono playback technology that became more commercially popular than the existing 78 RPM shellac recordings. While these early Monos are Great Treasures, they often playback with what we modern music listeners call "noise". Improved mono recording methods later pioneered by Rudy Van Gelder (and others), and then Stereo in late 1950, reduced this noise problem. Our grading evaluations examine the record condition as a result of use after it was manufactured. THE COVER : EXCELLENT + EX+ : Please see photos / well-stored with some minor scuffing / present is a small amount of paper loss - likely from the removal of a sticker on the front cover (you can see this in our Photo Gallery - front cover, top right corner) / bright colors / all of the seams, including the spine, are intact / no writing, paper tears, dirt, stains, or other paper loss. We have placed the record and the cover into separate, protective plastic sleeves. Tracklist And Musicians: Please see the photos of the back cover in our Gallery.
