Description: Japanese Satsuma Millefleur Hand Painted Porcelain Vase Taisho - 7 1/4" Tall and 6" in diameter at widest portion of vase. This beautiful vase features 4 round windows or medallions, two of a large temple along a lake with Mt Fuji in the background. And two other alternating scenes of a beautiful flower plant against a back drop of a mountain.Rest of the body of the vase is covered with a multitude of colorful flowers, mille fleur, meaning a thousand flowers. The top opening lip is painted in gold. Under the gold painted lip, black band gold painted mountain like shapes. Along the base is another black band with gold painted Xs. On the bottom, there is a black painted rectangle outlined in gold with the symbol of a circle with a cross in it, Shimazu family crest, followed by another Japanese character & lastly, symbol square with cross, meaning field. This vase is in excellent condition - no cracks or nicks, just slight paint loss & a couple of tiny scratches in the bottom black band (see pic) . A vase to be treasured.
