Description: This Japanese 12.5” platter features large koi (carp) fish, waterfall and cherry blossom trees elegantly hand-painted in the Mino ware style. Glazed and baked plain ware, painted with indigo color Gosu and overglaze with red, green, yellow and indigo as a top coat. Based on the color red, gives its name, “Akae” (which means red painting). Koi are becoming a universal symbol of peace all over the world. By the Heian period (794-1185), koi fish were already popular and kept by nobles in Japan. This particular pattern is hard to find. The beauty and presence of this large platter will add a touch of color and feng-sui to your everyday life. Provenance: Nagasaki area, Japan. This is an excellent condition. No chips or cracks. Some crazing but does not detract and is unnoticeable. Please feel free to ask any questions. Thank you for stopping by!
