Description: Absolutely amazing vintage Japanese jewelry box! Glossy black lacquer with charming and vibrant handpainted scenes of Japan, including Mount Fuji. Front and center is an awesome lace-detailed, mirrored diorama of a lady traveling in a rickshaw in a lovely landscape--when the top lid is opened and the music plays, the wheels actually turn! It plays "Strangers in the Night" (of all songs) with a windup key in back. The top lid opens to reveal a mirror and two lids with red tassel pulls that open to a 5x2.75x.5 tray lined in pink velvet. Below that is a "window" looking down on the rickshaw scene. On each side there's a lid to another section: left is 3x2.5, right is 2x4.5x.5 which lifts out to reveal wiring underneath which, if fixed, would provide a light; these sections also are lined in pink velvet. The two bottom removable drawers have silver handles and measure 2x5x2.5, also lined in pink velvet. The back is plain and there's no brand name or marks. There's a key but it's not THE key, however it looks like a standard jewelry box key would work. Besides the wiring issue (which could be fixed by someone who knows what they're doing), this jewelry box is in like-new condition! No dings, dongs, knicks, scratches. A unique gift or enjoy it yourself!
