This program is signed and inscribed by theguest of that day's program, Professor James MacGregor Burns (1918-2014), an American historian, political scientist, presidential biographer, and authority on leadership studies. In 1971 Burns received the Pulitzer Prize and the National Book Award in History and Biography for his book Franklin Roosevelt: The Soldier of Freedom. During World War II, Burns was drafted to serve in the Pacific theater as an enlisted U.S. Army combat historian, and was awarded the Bronze Star and four Battle Stars. After earning his Ph.D. in political science from Harvard, Burns began teaching at Williams College in 1947, and taught there for nearly forty years, retiring in 1986. The program is sixteen pages long, about 9" by 5.5". It is inscribed to an autograph collector named Jim Schendel. This program is in good condition, with a crease where it has been folded.
