Description: 146 Piece SILVER CELTIC PATTERN CANTEEN CUTLERY, Dublin 2005 by Newbridge SilverwarePATTERN: Celtic Pattern (12 place settings)STERLING SILVER HALLMARKS: Dublin 2005 by Newbridge Silverware.WEIGHT: 5450 grams (175 troy ounces) + 34 knives with stainless steel blades. The ServiceWe are pleased to be offering a very rare opportunity to purchase an Irish-made canteen that was originally commissioned by the businessman and racehorse owner JP McManus. The service is inspired by designs found in the famous Book of Kells with zoomorphic depictions in the Celtic style. It was made by Newbridge Silverware and housed in its original military style chest. The set provides for a full formal table service with eleven pieces per 12 place settings, a set of four serving spoons and an assortment of other serving knives/trowels. The sets of table and dessert knives have silver handles with stainless steel blades that are engraved “Newbridge”.Every piece is hallmarked for Dublin 2005 and bears the sponsor’s mark of Newbridge Silverware. The service is presented in a wooden box with four drawers.Provenance As described in the enclosed leaflet (see final photo), this pattern was only made in Sterling silver for JP McManus to give to favoured clients, friends and family. This particular service was given to the late John O’Reilly, the legendary golf caddy, who organised the JP McManus Pro-Am golf events in the 1990’s early 2000’s. Although cherished by his family, the serviced has never been used and indeed the pieces were still contained in their original plastic sleeves when brought to us.ComponentsThis 146-piece service consists of the following:12 Fish Knives 20.2cm12 Fish Forks 17.5cm12 Soup Spoons 16.8cm12 Table Knives 23.7cm (stainless steel blades)12 Table/dinner Forks 19.5cm12 Dessert Knives 21.3cm (stainless steel blades)12 Dessert Forks 17.5cm12 Dessert Spoons 17.5cm12 Pastry Forks 13.5cm12 Teaspoons 13cm12 Coffee Spoons 12.6cm4 Serving Spoons 21.7cm2 Butter Knives 20.5cm (stainless steel blades)2 Cheese Knives 20.7cm (stainless steel blades)2 Pastry Trowels 24.8cm (stainless steel blades)1 Bar Knife 22.8cm (stainless steel blade)3-piece Accessory Set (stainless steel blades)Total weight of weighable silver 5450 grams (175 troy ounces) plus 34 silver handled knives.ConditionMint condition with minimal signs of use.PresentationThis canteen is supplied in its original military style chest.
