Description: 1961 Edition of The Israel Commemorative State Medallion. This bronze edition depicts a boy celebrating his Bar Mitzvah, and coincided with Israel's 13th birthday. The coin/medallion depics on the obverse a 13-year-old boy celebrating his Bar Mitzvah by reading from the Bible, and says in English around the coin perimeter "At 13 for the fulfilment of the mitzvoth" (and the same Bible quote in Hebrew, at the center of the coin). The coin reverse displays the official Israel state seal in the center (a menorah, with the Hebrew word for "Israel" underneath). It is surrounded by the symbols for the 12 tribes of Israel. The coin edge is plain except for small etchings that read "State of Israel," and then the same phrase repeated in Hebrew, along with the state seal. The coin is also numbered, and this is pressed on the medallion edge (3484). This coin was given to me as a gift for my Bar Mitzvah in 1986. The coin is uncirculated, and has been maintained in cushioned storage since that time. It is unknown how it was stored between production and when it was gifted to me. Weight of coin: 100 grams. 59.7 mm diameter, 4.6 mm thick. This coin is one of a series that was produced and sold over the last 50 years. I am selling two other coins in addition to this one; please make sure to look at my other items.
