Liberty Philatelic (ubystamps)THIS LOT CONTAINS THE COMPLETE SET OF FIFTEEN (15) STAMPS OF THE 1971 DEFINITIVE SERIES FROM IRELAND, SCOTT #290-304, IN FINE-VERY FINE MINT, NEVER HINGED CONDITION. There are five (5) separate listings in the Scott catalog for the multiple printings of the "ancient animals" series. They can be listed, with the Scott catalog numbers, the number of stamps in the set, and the years of printing, as follows: #250-265 (16), 1968-1970; #290-304 (18), 1971-1975; #343-359 (17), 1974-1978; #395-402 (8), 1976-1979; and, #466-475 (10), 1980-1982. The first set, #250-265, can easily be distinguished as the denominations were in sterling currency and had the "p" (pence) after the denomination. The 4th and 5th sets #395-402 and #466-475 are also very easy to distinguish as they were added denominations. That leaves only the 2nd and 3rd sets -- #290-304 and #343-359, which are similar except #290-304 basically follows the first set without the "p" omitted and was printed on "e" watermarked paper, whereas the 3rd set #343-359 was printed on unwatermarked paper. With a little practice these 69 stamps seem to fall in place -- try it. Kindly see the photo to view this set of stamps. They are the complete 1971 printing of fifteen (15) stamps (the three values issued during 1974, the "A" values, are not included), and, are in fine-very fine mint, never hinged condition.
