Description: The Ireland 5 Pounds Banknote from 1999 is part of the 1992-2001 series. The theme for the design is to reflect the formation of modern independent Ireland. On the obverse side is a portrait of Catherine McAuley, the Irish nun who founded the Sister of Mercy. The Mater Misericordiae Hospital in Dublin and the coat of arms of Ireland is also printed on the front design. The reverse side features an extracted line from a poem titled Mise Raifteiri an File by Antoine O Raifteiri on the blackboard. The national emblem of Ireland, three children studying with the map of Europe in the background is also added on the back design. The note is 120 x 64 mm in size and is equipped with a Windowed security thread to enhance its security features. Placing the note under a UV light would reflect an image of Lady Lavery.
