Description: Let me explain how this was signed by the author. This is the 38 page 11 x 8 1/2 inch softcover book: Forearm Design & Assembly - the Inletting of Gunstock Blanks, a Modification of the 1903 Springfield", by famous firearm producer Alvin Linden, Volume 1 of the Samworth series of books on firearms. Included are two large 38 x 24 inch Pattern Sheets for laying out the design on the stock. This was purchased as a Christmas present in 1941 by my grandmother for my father, so author Alvin Linden signed (under his picture) to her and 1941. She write and explained it was a gift, so he wrote back with a slip of paper to glue over the dedication to her, explaining "If you like "Inletting" at all, you will like "Finishing" #2 better. Even your mother will get ideas for finishing furniture out out of it -and both of you will get a few chuckles besides." I've also included his letter (on his letterhead) explaining that he'd sold books to women so he thought it not unusual to sign the dedication to her. Great provenance! Book has some cover wear at bottom of front and less at the top of back cover, and some light soiling and paper aging. Stain on page where the dedication was covered up.
