Description: STK: #BAYO-5Brought to you by CAMARILLO TRADERS specialists in new, used & antique arms, collectible militaria and rustic ephemera Indian War Era US M1873 .45-70 Caliber Trapdoor Springfield Rifle Socket Bayonet, Metal Scabbard & M1873 Leather Frog (for M1872 and M1874 waist belts) Manufacturer: Springfield Armory Model: M1873 Socket Blade Length: 18.00" Marking: US TEXT GOES HERETEXT GOES HERE --> Offered here is a Model 1873 .45-70 caliber Trapdoor Springfield socket bayonet, metal scabbard with original M1873 frog. It has a fullered triangular blade and steel scabbard. The last model of standard issue socket bayonet was used until 1884 when the new model introduced a rod bayonet. It is attached by fitting it over the barrel muzzle and is locked into place with a locking ring. Overall, this socket bayonet is in Good - Very Good condition, considering its age and history. The socket, shoulder and blade have light scattered oxidation and scrapes. The locking ring rotates smoothly. The screw has light tool marks but a strong slot. The blade has light nicks and dings and has its original factory edge. The tip is intact and comes to a sharp straight point. Most of the finish still remains but has started to turn a darker patina color. The ricasso is marked "US", there are no other visible markings. The scabbard is in Fair - Good condition, considering its age and history. The frog restraining bar is intact and functional. The metal body has scattered light erosion and oxidation. Most of the finish has worn off. There are no visible markings on the scabbard. The leather frog is in Good - Very Good condition, considering its age and history. The loop is technically still usable, but the leather has dried out and we recommend NOT using it to keep it preserved. There are no rips or tears, but it has dried out a little bit and borderline brittle. There are wrinkles and a few light cracks. The stitching is sewn tightly. The swivel is securely attached and rotates. Most of the finish still remains. The swivel is marked "US". This socket bayonet, scabbard and leather frog will be a great addition to your Trapdoor rifle, or a bayonet collection in general. As with all used items, a light cleaning may be necessary to meet your standards. Please see our photographs for a better understanding of the contents and its condition. Shipping: Calculated.
