The tones are exquisite! ~ This brilliant panel is an antique hand embroidered hanging / curtain from India and intented for the Portuguese market ~ It dates c 1850 or a bit earlier. Intricately embroidered in a beautiful gold silk , the threads glisten when light hits them! The ground is medium weight cotton ~ this panel was hand embroidered in India for the Portuguese market specifically. This panel has a fabulous , aged ground tone. The Met Museum has a couple of examples in their collection ( viewable online) An exceptionally rare and wonderful find. (Please see my other listings for the matching panel ~) ( ET 3055) This panel measures : 123 inches long by 64 inches wide. Condition: This textile is in as found, not laundered condition . BEAUTIFUL patina , wonderful little age marks and a warm ground tone . This panel was once tacked to the wall and there are small tack sized dots on the side edge where the textile was covered so no oxidizing took place. There are some pale water marks. Generally wonderful condition indeed~ A RARE and fabulous find ~*~
