Description: Huichol Eclipse of Sun & Moon Beaded Interpretation Shaped Plaque11" W x 9.5" H x 0.44" D Was in New Mexico for my graduate study in Anthropology in 1990's. Visited many cultural events and study events. Since I had grown up 8 miles from Mexico, appreciated the Mexican and especially, the Huichol culture. Collected artifacts, art and cultural items. Now am downsizing and give you the opportunity to appreciate and own some of the items I have appreciated and collected. Since this was over 30 years ago, I do not have the provenance for planned to have it the rest of my life. At 80 years old, am reconsidering. Those who know the beauties of the Huichol handmade creations, understand that is an ancient art: that counts, sings causes; that makes imagine dialogues, dances, confrontations and mysteries. For all the pictures, all the designs, as simple they may seem, have one virtue: relating their stories. The Sun and the Moon, complementary strengths of the male and female, are essential in the Huichol culture. This is a finally detailed interpretation of Eclipse of Sun and Moon and a unique art piece. Sun and Moon have beautifully intricate color graduations and patterns. The Huicol artisans make pieces of very high quality and great color that are completely elaborated such as figures lined with beads, each one showing symbolic motifs, stories of the Huichol culture and Huichol legends of their lives. Each creation is unique! Excellent pre-owned condition. There are a very few missing beads on the edges but the surface is complete.
