Description: This medal is gigantic! It is approximately 102mm across and about 11mm thick. It was originally engraved and struck in the late 19th century and restrikes, in this size, were struck at least through the 1930's. This example appears to be earlier than the 1930's but I can't date it exactly, as it does have some wear, impairing the original surfaces. It was likely cleaned at some point, but in my opinion, it doesn't impact the eye-appeal of this piece too dramatically. It has no major rim bumps or spots. Originals are cataloged as PE-10 by R. W. Julian in "Medals of the United States Mint, The First Century 1792 - 1892". Early strikes of this medal seem to sell between $1,000 and $3,000! 102mm in diameter.Bronze.William Barber.United States Mint in Philadelphia. Thanks for looking!
