Description: I have for sale one of the 1872 Presidential campaign tokens for Horace Greeley. Greeley a democrat ran against Ulysses S. Grant, a republican, Greeley lost. Greeley was a newspaper editor & publisher, the founder & editor of the New York Tribune. He also served briefly as a United States congressman from New York. The token is gilded metal, it is 1 1/4 inch in diameter and in slightly circulated condition with spots on the obverse, see photos. On the token obverse it shows the raised bust of HORACE GREELEY with his name. The reverse reads THE HONEST OLD FARMER OF - CHAPPAQUA - LIBERAL - REPUBLICAN - AND DEMOCRATIC - CANDIDATE - FOR - PRESIDENT - OF THE UNITED STATES.
