Description: This is a unique piece - it is a clipping from a French Newspaper that printed one of Honore Daumier's many drawings. (Daumier was a 19th century (1808-1879) satirical caricaturist.) This particular drawing is one of his series of Actualities (#252) drawn in 1855. The script from the caricature says "Condemned for Having Sold a Pile of Sand Instead of Moist Brown Sugar" In the bottom left are the artist's initials: a lower case h and and an elaborate capital D You can see fold from the newspaper down the center of the piece. There is a lot pf dust between the glass and the matting - please look at photos carefully. Your purchase supports the Port Jefferson Historical Society Consignment Shop - thank you!
