Description: A real beauty! NJ International, Brass, Reading 4-6-2 Pacific G3 passenger engine #212, (A Reading Co.1948 modification of the early G1sa Pacific). The dual pumps were put on the front by Reading. Ten were built and ran until 1952. This model was custom painted with light weathering, has an engineer and fireman and Kadee couplers. It has a can motor for smooth quiet operation. This engine had minimal use on a layout that was unfinished due to a cross country move and subsequent entry int 2 Rail O Scale. The engine is equipped with the Pacific Fast Mail centralize Mark II Sound System. While some model railroaders are still using the system, it is now obsolete in favor of decentralized sound systems (i.e. decoders in every engine). This engine has reversing headlight and backup lights (A network of tiny diodes) and will operate on straight DC current and has a speaker with back-to-back diodes to prevent the cone from driving. The chuffing was accomplished with a wiper wire and capacitor on an insulated wheel with 4 bare spots. So, a PFM user is ready to go. A DC user is also ready to go but may want to disconnect the speaker wire to prevent crackles and squeaks. If it were me buying today, I would install a Soundtraxx or other Mfr. decoder for sound and lights. Because the speaker is already there and the headlight and backup lights are there and need only to have appropriate tiny resistors depending on the light voltage terminals of the decoder, which could be 12v or 5 volts. The speaker merely needs to have the capacitors removed as all decoders protect the speaker. So, you have a head start on decoder installation. You also could add a cab light and firebox lights over the last drive wheels with a decoder. I personally only ran HO, and now O scale engines with sound and decoder lights such as reversable and dimming in all engines, I just like the realism! The can motor in this engine is a real advantage for decoder use. The engine will be shipped USPS Ground Advantage. Insurance is only $100, so let me know if you want more insurance added to the shipping BEFORE purchase, so I can modify the shipping cost ($11.90 additional).
