Langlade, Lincoln, & ShawanoThree counties in North-Central Wisconsin New! 24 Page Booklet Early days in Langlade, Lincoln and Shawano Counties, WI, are recalled through in this meaty little booklet, filled with local history and biographies of prominent residents. The information comes from a rare 1881 book, entitled History of Northern Wisconsin. The 24-page booklet is printed single-sided on 8 1/2" x 11" opaque paper. The front cover is a parchtex card stock, protected with a vinyl sheet. We've enlarged this tri-county area of a map from the original book, and included it. The county shown as "New" on the map was re-named "Langlade" about the time the book was published in 1881. Because the county was newly organized and sparcely settled, the bulk of the data in our booklet concerns Lincoln and Shawano Counties. When the original book was written, Lincoln and Langlade counties extended north to the state of Michigan, encompassing present-day Oneida and Vilas Counties, while Shawano County included what is now Menominee County. For comparison we've included a recent outline map of the state's counties. Two other maps of historic interest are also included. Communities currently listed for this area by the National Association of Counties include: Langlade County: Ackley, Ainsworth, Antigo (County Seat), Bryant, Deerbrook, Elcho, Elton, Evergreen, Kempster, Langlade, Lily, Neva, Norwood, Parrish, Pearson, Peck, Phlox, Pickerel, Polar, Price, Rolling, Summit, Summit Lake, Upham, Vilas, White Lake, Wolf River.
