You worked with Hermes on the beautiful “Herlight” Collection. What did you come away with from that project and about what Hermes, perhaps, taught you about luxury? The "Herlight" is made of a flexible leather-foam sandwich, which I patented and designed for Hermès. When we look at Hermes leather objects, there are two worlds we think about. The first is of thick leather that is hand sewn by saddlers. The second is sheathing, or leather glued or added to a hard surface, like leather in a wooden box, or trunks. The "Herlight" is in between those two traditional worlds: it is leather added to a soft surface, or foam. This technique did not exist before at Hermès. We learned it together and the Herlight was born! I don't think of luxury when I think of Hermès. To me, Hermès embodies quality.The notion of luxury is an external look or judgement imposed upon the production and the brand.
