Description: This 26 inch rip saw has a Disston medallion and etch. Disston started etching saw blades in 1865, that same year his son joined the company and they started marking saws H Disston & Son. That allows you to date this saw to 1865 and the civil war era. I can't read it but I can say it has the remnants of a paper label on the handle, I've only seen this early type label three times and couldn't read any of them. There are a couple teeth that seem to have had their tips put out of line but this plate looks pretty nice when eyeballing down it. There is a wiggle in the handle and it would need a good sharpening but it could be a very good looking user saw. The surfaces show wear but they are very much original. The plate could be shined up and lightened up but this deep grey patina from a century and a half can't be duplicated. Hard to find this level of condition on this era saw For information on old tools the resources at Mid West Tool Collectors Association are top notch. They have links collected there for everything antique tool related.https://mwtca.org/useful-reference/ Make sure to check out my other items, I will combine shipping just wait for the invoice.
