Helgray Le Mans Midnight Black 1970's Inspired Bi-Compax Racing Chronograph

A new battery was installed in May 2024.***********This seldom seen Helgray Le Mans bi-compax racing chronograph has a pristine glossy black dial and the lume on both the dial and hands emits a subtle glow in darkness. The fixed, black with white print tachymeter bezel presents nicely. The massive black coated 316L stainless steel case shows light wear. The outer edge of the BBS with central lock racing wheel face case back, which retains its original sticker, is stamped "HELGRAY LE MANS LIMITED EDITION." The top surface of the sapphire crystal is nearly blemish free while the anti-reflective coating on its underbelly, particularly between the 5 and 6 o'clock markers, shows deterioration. In my humble opinion the crystal presents markedly better in person. The Miyota 6S21 quartz movement with quickset date function keeps time to within specs, the date wheel rolls over perfectly as it should and all chronograph functions work without issue. The quickset date function works flawlessly by pulling the non-screwdown crown out to the first position and then turning the crown clockwise until the desired date has been reached. The top pusher starts and stops the sweep seconds hand and minute register while the bottom pusher resets both back to zero. The sweep seconds hand has a tendency to reset a smidge to the left of 12 o'clock. A new battery was installed in May 2024. This watch measures approximately 42 mm excluding the crown, approximately 45 mm including the crown, approximately 20 mm between the lugs and approximately 48 mm lug to lug. Case thickness, measured from the bottom of the case back to the top of the bezel, is approximately 11.5 mm. The crystal adds no measurable thickness. The original black Italian calf leather band with "Helgray" stamped buckle shows minor wear. Although the movement is currently keeping time to within specs with all chrono functions working as they should there are no warranties, express or implied, attached with the sale of this watch.
