Description: Heisey Glass Sherberts, Set of 6, Touraine Mould w/ "Narrow Optic" Pattern Added Exterior is Smooth. Smooth Rolling Optic pattern on interior. They actually have two "Diamond H" mould imprints. The Touraine pattern was produced 1902-1909, a very rare find today. But around 1933 at least a couple moulds were reworked with a vertical Narrow Optic pattern added. They were for a new account from Fred Harvey Restaurants that had stores across the west, north to south, that followed, built up in conjunction with and partnered with Santa Fe Railroads. These were "upscale" restaurants, with linens, fine China and glassware no matter the size of the clientele or location. They initially followed the railways, and then joined them in classic dining cars, complete with fine hotel style bedrooms, and then built very large free-standing buildings away from the railroads in large western cities. Heisey supplied FHR until both entities closed restaurants and the Newark factory in the mid-50's. Heisey created Light Amber for FHR, but also produced many of the same pieces in crystal (clear). My guess is these six sherberts never saw a restaurant nor dining car crossing the country but stayed within miles of where they were fabricated just before the factory being shuttered in 1957. Still, they are an integral part of the restaurant "early fast food" history.
