After her marriage to Dr. Richard H.P. Sia, they moved to Peking in 1924. During the fifteen years that they lived in China, Mrs. Sia first began teaching Chinese cooking and, in 1935, had her first cookbook published. Upon returning to Hawaii, she conducted cooking classes at the University of Hawaii and in adult education at McKinley High School. Mrs. Sia also taught Chinese cooking at the Honolulu YWCA until shortly before her death in 1971.
