Description: Kellogg telephones were used by independent telephone companies in areas not serviced by Bell's Western Electric folks. This early desk phone is usually referred to as the "ashtray phone" due to its recessed sides under the handset. This is a gleaming ebony Bakelite phone that is not often seen. Its non-functioning early guts were discarded, and a modern GTE mini network was implanted to power this phone and its acoustics correctly. Sound transmission both ways is superb. Its dial has been correctly oiled and calibrated and reaches the correct numbers that you dial. Its porcelain metropolitan number plate is NOS. The cord from the handset to the base is a new black cloth-covered model woven exactly like an original. The long vinyl line cord has an adapter terminating in RJ-11 to plug into a modern jack and use right out of the box. The original Kellogg twin gong ringer inside announces incoming calls. I replaced its fossilized rubber feet with new neoprene ones that are furniture friendly. Everything has been done for you. Please note that the design of the ashtray phone was prone to cracks, and this one is no exception. It has a hairline crack in front, shown in two of my pictures. It displays and performs well, nevertheless. There are no other cracks, and no chips. If you plan to use this phone, do be sure to ask your phone provider if they support rotary dialing. If not, converters are readily available online from any number of suppliers. Works 100% on my traditional copper landline. Please add shipping.
