Description: This handsome old box has lovely polished veneers. To the lid and front are mother of pearl roundals connected with pewter stringing to good effect. There is a m.o.p. escutcheon and a m.o.p. cartouche marked MEW. A green felt is fitted to the base. The lid lifts on brass stay open hinges with a brass lock but no key. The lnterior is covered in a deep red faux leather , original. To the lid is a secret letter pouch, see photos. A pretty well made box from the late Victorian period measuring 10” x 7” x 4” (259 x 175 x 100 mm) Minor wear commensurate to age, thanks for looking.
