The gold-toned 1-1/8" 4-Way Cross and the medal were made in Italy; the chaplet was designed and handmade by me in the USA. The eleven beads are all 8 mm. The single Our Father is a smooth, round, genuine Amethyst gemstone. The ten Hail Mary beads are genuine Czech glass, faceted and fire-polished, in a red/blue bicolor that shades to purple where the colors overlap. He rose high in the ranks and in addition to his other duties, had the responsibility for organizing fire brigades. He eventually trained an elite group of soldiers who specialized in fighting fires. During the Diocletian persecution it was reported to Rome that Florian was not enforcing the rules against Christians. Ordered to offer sacrifice to Roman gods, he refused and was sentenced to be burned at the stake. While waiting on the pyre he taunted the soldiers to light the fire, and he would "ride the flames up to Heaven". Frightened of this the soldiers instead tied a millstone to his neck and threw him in the Enns river where he drowned.
