Size: 10 x 12.5 in (21 x 26 cm) Marc Zakharovich Chagall (June 24, 1887 - March 28, 1985) was a Russian - French artist . An early modernist , he was associated with several major artistic styles and created works in virtually every artistic medium, including painting, book illustrations, stained glass, stage sets, ceramic, tapestries and fine art prints. Art critic Robert Hughes referred to Chagall as "the quintessential Jewish artist of the twentieth century" (though Chagall saw his work as "not the dream of one people but of all humanity"). According to art historian Michael J. Lewis, Chagall was considered "the last survivor of the first generation of European modernists". Using the medium of stained glass , he produced windows for the cathedrals of Reims and Metz , windows for the United N ations , and the Jerusalem Windows in Israel. He also did large-scale paintings, including part of the ceiling of the Paris Opéra . This hand signed print was originally produced to accompany an art exhibition featuring Chagall. Before the internet, books and portfolios were a long-established way for galleries to promote their special shows. Many of the books and portfolios were kept by the galleries and then broken up for sale, with some prints signed and other unsigned by Chagall. For certification of authenticity (COA), we are relying on the galleries from which we purchased to verify the artwork and signatures.
