Description: A low comport (also called a compote, though compotes are usually thought to have a lid which this piece never had), or footed fruit dish. Originally part of a larger dessert service, made by H and R Daniel circa 1830. The Shell shape was very popular and it was on sale from 1828-1836. Five variations of the basic shape were produced, the pierced version being one of them. Apart from the distinctive shell motifs in the border, the Daniel items can be identified by the number, shape and treatment of the piercings. The central handpainted floral study is exceptionally beautiful and very well. There is small line of crazing near the central handpainted floral study and some general wear. Please look carefully at all the pictures.
