Description: Gruen Precision Swiss Mens Watch '50s Classic Bumper Automatic 462SS 10k Gold GF box 2 Here's a nice looking collectible Gruen precision automatic 10K gold filled watch with the sought-after bumper automatic movement. It seems willing to run, as the balance ticks and seems to move freely, and the hands move, but I am assuming it probably needs work. The stem is broken in half (pictured in the small baggie) so I really can't test this very well, so therefore being sold as-is. But from what I see, this has a great deal of potential. The watch is overall clean and in better than average condition for its age. It still looks very handsome. A buffing wheel would really make this look awesome. But it's relatively clean as-is. The crystal has average wear. The movement is clean. There is a considerable amount of gold throughout the watch in the 10K gold filled case and band. The lugs have some wear as can be seen under magnification. Overall its a pretty darned good watch with plenty here to work with-- I think someone with some expertise can get this to run, no guarantees of course, but it sure seems like it wants to run, as the balance does move freely on its own sometimes for a good little stretch and the hands do move-- it surely could use some TLC and a new stem and probably adjustments and a professional deep cleaning and oiling. I don't think it needs any parts other than the stem from what I see, but I obviously can't guarantee that. Stems are readily available. Cool watch! I know someone out there will get this resurrected... If you are appreciative of the old Swiss watch classics like I am, then this is a good match for you, especially if you have the knowledge and expertise of digging in to these old mechanicals. While I am from that era and i like to tinker, i have limited ability to really break down and reset the old mechanicals, but I sure love them all the same! It is always my wish to see these watches get into the right hands when a little work beyond my experience is required. I share your passion!
