' First ( 1st ! ) Edition Printing ! : The Last & Final ! " Road Trips Series !! " Release !!! 1976 East Coast ' Opening-Night ! ' from the " Return !! " of the ' Live ' & Once-Again ' Touring !!! ' Good Ol' Grateful Dead !!!!!!! Wow !!! What this Show meant to the Grateful Dead community at this time was simply -- pretty much everything ! Why ? Simple. Because this was the 1st Show on the East Coast for the beloved " Touring Grateful Dead " !!! After the October '74 Winterland run, the Band was on an undetermined hiatus - solo projects were ensuing - and though everybody's fingers were indeed crossed, it could have indeed been the end. Thankfully for all of us, it wasn't. Shewww ! But the Band hadn't toured to the East Coast since " Summer Tour 1974 ", and this was not only the end of the ' Wall of Sound ' Live Era - but it could have been the end for the Dead too. Luckily, studio sessions continued throughout Spring & Summer '75 - some for the SNACK Benefit show, and some at Bob Weir's ( " Ace's " Studio ). And as we later would find, this was indeed some very deep work - as the end result would be the fantastic & different " Blues for Allah " Album release in '75. The Band let the " cat out of the bag " with the 8/13/75 underground show at the Great American Hall in S.F. ( which to date, rumor has it was the ' toughest ' Dead Ticket ever ! ). This then led to the spacey & excellent Lindley Meadows Golden Gate Park Show in Sept., and most importantly .... it led to the decision to book a heavy-duty Summer Tour ! It started up ( interestingly ? ) with only two ( 2 ) Shows in Portland, Oregon - but then was followed by this magnificent " Road Trips " 6/9/76 Boston Music Hall performance. This was the kick-off of a 17-date East Coast run which marked officially the " Return " of the Touring Grateful Dead !!! To many Fans, this was a strikingly different product now that has undoubtedly undergone some sort of wonderful metamorphosis - but the awesomeness of the new, fresh & aggressive material could not be denied. This my fellow fans, was the era where it was official that The Music Never Stopped ! We're talkin' Crazy Fingers - Lazy Lightening > Supplication - Franklin's Tower - even Mission in the Rain ... and much, much more. This was the brand new foundation for the incredible Grateful Dead form which would perform live for the next close to 20 Years ! And this also was the early re-gathering that led to the out-of-this-universe 1977 banner year for the live Grateful Dead. The Channeled Live-Energy ! in this release is just Awesome ! - and it's a Fantastic-Choice from this '76 " Return " run. Either this, or a selection from the Beacon or Chicago run was undoubtedly the way to go. However, pound for pound I would agree that this is indeed the one to go with. It's just Amazing how hot they are ( and tight ! ) right out of the gate - for a nice & big ( and long ) monumental run like this one. Unfortunately, this is indeed the " final release " from the grand " Road Trips " Series - but just as they say ... all good things must pass. Luckily, it's a 3-Disc Heater ! - and it certainly appears that it was selected with a bit of " save the best for last " mentality. With '76 pro-releases being somewhat scarce in general - this one is a keeper, and is easily a Top-3 Pro-Release from that Grateful Dead true " Come-Back " year ... of '76 !!! Enjoy !!!!!
