" - Keepin' the Late '70's Live-Dead Spirit ' Alive ' !!!!! Wow . . . Alright ... Alright ! " Dick's Picks 25 ", yes. Ahhh, yes. Is this the " Big One " ? " The Cat's Meow " ? " The Creme-de-la-Creme " ? Is it " The Holy Grail " of the Dick's Pick's Series ?? I don't know, but I do know a few things for certain on this DP # 25 4-CD Gem ! : Without any question at all ... Dick dug Deep !, Real-Deep !! into that dusty Vault of goodies & treasures ! to pull this rabbit out of the GD hat. Out of my racks & racks & racks ( & racks ! ) of analog tapes, I had never heard either of these two shows ( to my ' Grate' surprise ? ) - and do not even specifically recall the ' dates ' on any of the main tape-trader lists I dealt with ? And hey, I mean I knew some mighty connected folks in the taping world back in the day ( or at least I thought I did ? ). But I guess it's quite clear now that I didn't know Dick ! - Mr. Dick Lavala !! - that is. So, Thank You very kindly for this mind-blowing 1978 double-release ( Rest in Peace, my fellow Dead Fan ). Dick sure had something good in store for " # 25 ", and Twenty-Five doesn't come around too often in a 36-installment series, that's for sure ! And Secondly ... I mean this is some serious-attack, yet still ' party-time funky ' in the time-signature delivery ( just pre -" Shakedown Street " Grateful Dead ) !! And, I just love how this set lays out with one complete show ( or near-complete show ) leading right on up to the next -- a true live ' documentation ' ( or chemistry-experiment ! ) of one of those many times where the Band completely smokes a venue, packs it up - drives a 100 miles, or so - puts it back up ( Thanks Road Crew ! ), and then they completely blows away another Joint !!! I mean talk about " Last In, First Out " !! Dang-right. Jerry Garcia even " hoots & hollers " on this one - Literally ! It also has about every song that you would want to hear from a 1978 Tour, when set lists were indeed getting a little bit settled into. You've got your Bertha > Good Lovin', your Estimated > Eyes, a very nice B.I.O.D.T.L. !, a killer Loser, a mind-melting Lightnin' > Supplication ( Thanks Ace ! ), a Big League Scarlet > Fire, and last but not least a legendary Dancin' > Drums > NFA > Stella Blue > Around, and then the " Werewolves " after all of that !!?! My goodness ... And to think now that I actually went like 15-20 years without these tapes ? - all the way up until 2002 ?!? Heck, I might just even spin these to analog on the Good Ol' Nak, just to forget that any-of-this ' absence ' even happened !!? In a nutshell, this Very-Rare ( Original ( 1st ! ) 2002 GDCD Printing !! ) 4-CD set is way ( Way ! ) worth the price of admission ( and then some, really ... ), and is definitely a true-candidate for the always enjoyable " Which Dick's Picks is the Best !?!
