Description: Grateful Dead : Dick's Picks 14 Volume Fourteen : Boston Music Hall - Boston, Massachusetts ( MA ) - November 30, 1972 ( 11/30/1973 ) & December 2, 1973 ( 12/2/1973 ) : 4 CD : 1999 (1973/1999) Grateful Dead Productions, Inc. ( GDP ) - GDCD 4034 : ' Original ' First ( 1st ! ) Printing ! : Brand New / Factory Sealed : Very-Rare !!! Fabulous ! Winter Tour 1973 Grateful Dead performances from the Boston Music Hall ... 4-CD Set !!!! - Both ! November 30, 1973 & December 2, 1973 from the Boston Music Hall !! - in Boston, Mass. !!! So ... " What Would The Grateful Dead Do ? " More specifically - that is, if it was the 1973 Winter Tour back East and you were about to kick-off a Ten ( 10 ) Show East Coast run ( starting with Three ( 3 ) nights in front of a Feisty & Ready Boston crowd ) ?!?!? Open the show with " Morning Dew ". I mean what else ? Ahhhh ... the Dew Show-Opener !! That is indeed the very-last time that ever happened in the remainder of The Grateful Dead's 30-Year Career ... I think it is remarkably symbolic that 1973 is the last time that happened. In fact, I think it is fair to say that '73 was the very last time that a lot of things happened, from a standpoint of " just that way ". I mean this is a year/era/period where just anything could & might happen, but if it did it would happen in a fantastically-controlled and excellent fashion - and often, with a tinge of pure musical perfection. I mean this is the Mucho ! & Bueno !! period for the Band ! You might have walked out of a show back then 45-Years ago and tried to remember the set list, but you couldn't ? But don't worry, because it really wasn't your fault. The Dead are to blame, completely. Because unlike any other live-bands playing concerts in '73 ( arguably the tail-end of Rock's finest-era ... ), the Grateful Dead choose to deliver over 25 + songs to you in just One ( 1 ) Show !!!!! I mean from a comparative standpoint, what did a band like Led Zep do ? Play maybe 15 or 16 songs that you knew were coming anyways because they were touring a new album ? And if you made the push to the next show, you would hear the exact same set, maybe only switching a song or two in the name of variety ? I love my Zeppelin, and am by no means knocking them ( I mean who could, right ? ) -- but in the U.S. in '73, that Tour was the biggest & it was indeed " The Bomb " - no doubt ... basically re-writing the rules on Rock 'n Roll, and especially from a ' promotion ' standpoint ( or should I say band vs. promoter ? ). But here the Dead are in '73, not only in one of their most exciting sonic periods - but also in their most generous times ... more generous to the loyal fans then ever, really ??! Twenty-five(-ish) tunes per night for the Deadhead Faithful, with many of them very-long, jammed out, maybe spacey, and many even segued too ??!?! I Love ! my '73 Dead, and I ( along with many Fans ) consider it to be one of the bands Four ( 4 ) major " Peak " periods and eras. It is all about crystally-tight delivery & immaculate time-keeping ( to say the least ! ). Song after song. Night after night, and jam after Jam !!! Every member is not only settled in their voice, tone and role - but the bold musical chances are taken pretty much absolutely at will. And one other thing all ye' fellow Deadheads ... Do we all collectively agree that no other era that had as many ' PERFECT ' song segue transitions then our beloved '73 Dead ??? Now we can politely argue ( discuss ! ) later which specific period/era/year was the Band's Very-Best !? ... as Wow - that's always a real-long ...conversation. Oh my. But, until then, enjoy this Massive 4-Disc Set delivered way-back-when in Beantown, because it is indeed a Big-One ! Some pretty Huge !!! '73 G.D. - no doubt. " Walk me out in the Morning Dew ! my friend " ... Twice !! Enjoy !!!!!
