With a rich & longstanding over 30-Year ! bond of both Family & Friends in Oregon - the Grateful Dead were successful in delivering Forty-Eight ( 48 ) known Shows of " Oregon-Dead ! " to the Grateful Dead Fan Faithful ! The Band played Oregon Shows beginning with the 1966 Acid Test Show, and ending with these Two ( 2 ) ' Final ' 1995 Portland Meadows Shows on the Summer Tour '95 - playing Shows in between ( from 1966 through 1995 ) in Portland ( 1966 - 1995 ) - Eugene ( 1968 - 1994 ) - Ashland ( 1968 ) - St. Helens ( 1969 ) - Corvallis ( 1970 ) - and, last but most-definitely ' not least ' ... Veneta ! ( 1972 & 1982 ) - at the Oregon Country Fairgrounds !!! So amazing to think in hindsight that " Veneta " was actually the ' Last ' Oregon City which the Grateful Dead managed to reach & play for the 1st time ... in 1972 ! Wow ... right ?!? And ... " Mighty ! " Autzen Stadium at the University of Oregon in Eugene, Oregon was the Oregon Venue which the Grateful Dead were able to Grace ! the most - delivering 10-Shows ! at " Mighty-Autzen " ( The Proud-Home of the Oregon Ducks ! ) between 1978 and 1994. While the Hult Center ! in Downtown Eugene, and the Paramount Theater ! ( aka. ( now-days ) the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall ) are tied even on " Dead Shows " at 6-Shows each ( 1983/1984 at " The Hult ! " & 1972 - 1977 at " The Paramount ! " ( aka. " The Schnitz ! " ). And, the Good Ol' " Portland Memorial Coliseum " comes in next - with a healthy 5-Dead Shows - best known to both Oregon & the USA ... as " The House That Jack Built ! " - where Dr. Jack Ramsey coached the Portland Trailblazers to an NBA Championship ! during the 1976-1977 NBA Basketball Season ! - the Blazers ' Only ' NBA Championship ever. And ... Yes ! - as all of these 4-Venues mentioned still stand tall & also ' proud ' today - of the Grateful Dead " Live-Magic ! " which was so eloquently exuded inside them between 1972 & 1994. Yum ! - Tasty !! & ' Awesome !!! ' ... " Oregon-Dead !!!!! ". And, as far as these Last & Final Grateful Dead " Oregon Dead ! " Backstage Passes go ... Portland Meadows was treated to not only Marvel Comics " Dr. Doom ! " Himself on the 5/28/95 Pass - but also ... a unique Pin-Up Cheesecake style Vintage Photo / Painting ( from the 1950's Era ! ) of an attractive " Pin Up Girl ! " who is also joined by a ' Monkey ! '. The " Monkey & The Pin Up Girl ! " ... if I may - Ha ! Classic ... Marvel Comics ' Superhero ' & ' Supervillan ' Comic Pass Designs were used by the Grateful Dead ' Only ' during the 1995 Touring-Year ! And, at least to my own knowledge - this is the ' One & Only ! ' time a " Pin Up Girl ! " art design of this nature was ever featured on a ' Show-Dated ' Grateful Dead Backstage Pass ! In addition, I also believe this is a design-image ( painting ) created by the famous Pin-Up Artist Joyce Ballantyne ( 1918-2006 ). Joyce did advertising art for Brown & Bigelow, and was most famous for the design-creation of the Coppertone Girl line of artistic advertising images. She was personally recommended at the time by another one of the Pin-Up Art Masters - Earl Moran, as Earl was famous for his designs & creations ( paintings / drawings ) of the Calendar & Pin-Up Cheesecake Style Girl Photos, all throughout the 1950's and beyond - living from 1893-1984. His most famous works, being of " Norma Jean " - his star young model who was later known as the one & only Marilyn Monroe ! In addition to Joyce Ballantyne & Earl Moran ... Gil Elvgren was another of the Masters of the Pin-Up images from this era, in the case that you would like to take a look into the history of this popular culture art form. So ... how Completely-Perfect ! really - for the ' Last & Final ' Two ( 2 ) Grateful Dead " Oregon Dead ! " Backstage Pass design(s) ' Ever ' !! ... on the Last & Final 1995 Summer Tour by the Grateful Dead ! The Grateful Dead ' Live ' at Portland Meadows ! in Portland, Oregon U.S.A. ! on May 28th & 29th, 1995 !! The " Grate ! " State of Oregon !!! ... a place with some serious Grateful Dead history, roots & family tradition - as for me personally, these 5/28/95 & 5/29/95 Shows were indeed the very-last-time that I myself would ever see the Grateful Dead play Live. Though, I certainly wasn't the only one, as the whole Crowd inside really had no-idea ( for the most part ) that this would indeed be the case ... with Jerry Garcia's untimely passing just a couple months later on August 9th, 1995. These two Shows were also very-interestingly the " 1st time " the Band had actually come back to play the ' City of Portland ' - Since 1983 ?!? I don't quite know how exactly that ended up happening for that-long ? - but, let's just say ... " Eu~Gene !!! " - Ha ! Eugene ... ( aka. " The Euge ! " ). Yep. So, the fact is ... Portland Meadows was ( & still is ! ) a dust & dirt ' Dog-Track ' style place - and it was definitely no Autzen - Expo - or Shoreline ... heck, not even close ! But, the quality trade off I suppose - was getting to see Chuck Berry do the " Duck Walk ! " while opening-up for the Dead at ' Both ! ' of these Shows !! These Shows were all Fun & Bliss, despite the obvious outdoor open-air sound, and the dust & dirt conditions ! And, even the weather held up for us nicely ! - because as we all know ... It Never ! ' Rains ' in Oregon !!! ... Ha ! I distinctly remember ( crystal-clear ! ) going grab some food after the 1st Portland Meadows Show, the day before ( 5/28/95 ) - and I struck up a conversation with a Tour Kid who told me " how much he loved this night's Show. " ... because " Jerry isn't going to live that long " ??! I was polite ( as possible), but also was kind of like " whatever ... " in common die-hard Deadhead Fashion. And, little did I know that this here next night's Show at Portland Meadows on 5/29/95 ( in just less than 24-hours ?!? ) - would indeed be the last time I would ever see Garcia play, wave to us all, and walk off stage ... Smiling. So, for this here Dead Fan ... this was indeed " The Last Time " for me, and they even played ' it ' too - at this 5/29/95 Show !?! - with passion & excellence, in fact ... coming right out of Space ! They also opened this Show with " Let The Good Times Roll " - and this was the Last & Final Time that this fun time Dead Song was ever played ' anywhere ' by the Band. So as it easily goes without saying, I'll never forget this Home-State ! run & I'm also so very-very glad that I also made the road trips push too for the Seattle Rex Shows prior ! Two runs of Shows that ended up being the last ones for the Good Ol' Grateful Dead in the entire ( & beautiful ! ) " Pacific Northwest ! ". It's definitely safe to say that they just don't quite make them like this anymore ... a Marvel Comics " Dr. Doom ! " Backstage Pass - along with a " Pin Up Girl ! Cheesecake Photo ... with a Monkey ! " Backstage Pass ! Well, come to think about it ... they definitely ! don't make them like " The Good Ol' Grateful Dead ! " anymore either - a one-of-a-kind Live Touring Band that set the bar so-incredibly-high, that no-band could ever touch what they created & achieved. They clearly have no equals - and probably ( very-likely ) never-ever will. These were " The-Daze ! " ... my fellow Dead Fans !! Oh, and one more thing too to note ( just for Fun ! ) ... which, I'll absolutely never forget either - as this was a G.D. " Classic ! " >>> The Band came out to play an Encore on this last Portland, Oregon night ( 5/29/95 ) - when it was most likely Garcia's turn to sing ... and Weir grabbed the stage mic, and saluted to the crowd ... " Let Me Hear You All Say F*** The Christian Right !!! " Hah !! I mean ... " Sunshine~Daydream !!! ". A line I'll never forget, for most certain ... and then Jerry stepped up to the mic, and played ' Liberty ! '. Then for me, and certainly many others in this fine crowd - that was indeed the " Last-Time ! " that we would ever be so-fortunate to see the Grateful Dead play Live !! But, at the same time ... So-Much Thanks !!! for 30-Years !!!! A Very ( Very ! ) Special " Pair " of Grateful Dead " Oregon Dead !!! " Backstage Passes - for sure ... & for all reasons ' quite-obvious '.
