I can't read the regiment number he wrote on the application, but based on the enlistment date, it would have to be the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th Reigment of New Hampshire. All other New Hampshire regiments were formed after September 1861. The application is undated, but it says the applicant was 79 years old at the time. The application measures 13-7/8" by 8-1/2".
