Song after song, recording after recording,appearance after appearance, the message goes out as strong, or stronger, than before.Of course, God is the mainstay, the source of strength for The Lads, the One whocharts the course and does the work. The men He works through are Murray Hollis,Mel Taylor, Dave Waits, Charlie Burnett and Dave Scroggins.Murray was born and raised in Alabama where he learned to love the sounds ofgospel music. It was there that a love for this type of expression began to work itsway deep into his heart so that he would never be able to get very far away from it.Tho’ his life has seen him in many different parts of this country and in variousforms of work, Murray has always had a mainline desire to serve the Lord throughgospel singing. He is encouraged by his wife, Diane, and their two children,Tammy and M. C.Mel grew up in Southern California and at the side of his bass singing father,ate breakfast, lunch and dinner listening to gospel quartet records. He hasfrequented the doors of many “gospel concerts,” at first idolizing, then evalu-ating and discriminating, but always enjoying the singing. Even while he was inhis early teens he was playing the piano and singing bass with a group in theSouthern California area. Mel has a lovely wife, Dawnette, who enjoys his pianoplaying about as much as anybody does.Dave, affectionately known as “the Colonel,” was raised in Kentucky and is thenewest member of The Lads. When you listen to this album you may recognize Dave’svoice because he was with The Lads back in 1969-70. Dave began singing as a young boyand has developed into one of the top lead singers in gospel music today. He and his wife,Cheryl, have two pretty girls, Kim and Kristy.Charlie, “the Bush,” was born and raised in Busch, Arkansas, and learned to love gospel music while the family sataround the fire singing together. Bush sings the tenor part for The Lads and says that the “impossible dream” of his life wasrealized when the door to full time service through music was opened to him. Quartet singing has always been a part of Bush’s lifeand he was very active in it prior to joining The Lads in 1971. Charlie “Bush” married his high school sweetheart, Ann, and they havetwo children, Cheryl and David.Big Dave, like Mel grew up in Southern California in an environment of music. He met The Lads shortly after they had begun singing and hasbeen singing bass with them ever since. Dave adds a dimension of talent to The Lads as the man responsible for the “Lad Sound,” including the pro-duction of all albums.
