Description: Offering s 22" tall, life-size bisque head character baby by Kestner of Germany, with beautifully-modelled head and facial features on this solid dome example. This lovely baby has a happy countenance with molded and painted blonde hair, delicate ears, feathered brows, blue stationary eyes with lavishly- painted upper and lower lashes. The modelling around the temples and lower cheek and mouth are especially fine. The open mouth with tremble tongue has two upper porcelain teeth and cheeks are full with dimples. The back of the head is incised low on the back of the neck: JDK 12 Made in Germany. The bisque is excellent quality with no damage or repair and the baby's coloring is soft with peaches & cream shading. The head circumference is 16". There is a tiny bit of roughness at the neck socket which is not damage, but inherent in the firing process and was painted at the same time the entire head was colored. This does not devalue the doll. This doll dates from 1909-on and the quality & subtle coloring indicate that she was produced in the earlier time frame, rather than later. The original five piece composition baby body has very distinctive and careful modelling as well, showing attention to detail that gives this doll very realistic baby features. The body has the torso formed like a real baby having a rounded tummy with indented belly-button or navel, chubby limbs with dimpled knees, buttocks, and dimpled upper back. Hands and feet are also realistically formed. The lower feet and ankles have a light staining that I feel came from some old socks or shoes the baby had worn before coming to me. body is in the original finish in very good condition for the age of the doll . Layers of antique and vintage clothing as follows: Antique cotton diaper with scalloped edges, long cotton baby slip with embroidery, a pale pink organdy baby dress, knitted cream booties, lovely antique ruffled bonnet with openwork embroidery, and an antique silk blend lightweight long dressing coat with attached cape and wide antique pink and cream ribbon at the neck. Some of these garments are a little big in places as they all were made for a real early 20th century baby, but they give the baby doll a beautiful presentation. The long cream caped coat came from France. Please consider my photos as part of the description and message me at any time if you have any questions at all. I want everyone to be very happy with their purchases! I have been an antique doll collector and dealer since 1990 so please buy with confidence. I will pack everything with utmost care. Thank you for viewing my listing and I hope you will consider adding me to your favorite sellers list. PS: The baby is large and heavy so I listed UPS as desired shipper as I find them to ship more reasonably than USPS but I am happy to work with you if you prefer USPS.
